6 Iloilo towns close to being drug-free
ILOILO CITY — Six towns in Iloilo province are close to becoming drug-free.
Police Chief Inspector Aron Palomo, spokesman of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office, said the towns of Alimodian, Dueñas, Maasin, Mina, San Rafael, and Tubungan may reach drug-free status soon.
Palomo said the police in these towns have run out of drug dealers to arrest following intensive anti-drug operations.
He said without pushers, the supply of drugs to users has been cut off.
A barangay can declare itself drug-free but it has to be validated by the local government to which it belongs.
The final declaration will be made by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Palomo said.
Last month, Mambusao town in neighboring Capiz province declared itself drug-free, but it awaits validation by the Capiz Provincial Police Office.
