New US ambassador arrives, lauds ‘deep bond’ between US and PH

Praising the enduring bond between the Philippine­s and the United States as “one of the most important special partnershi­ps anywhere,” US Ambassador-Designate Sung Kim said yesterday he is “very confident that our relationsh­ip will grow and deepen in the years to come.”

The Korea-born Kim arrived Thursday night at the Ninoy Aquino Internatio­nal Airport (NAIA) and was welcomed by US Deputy Chief of Mission in Manila Michael Klechesky.

In his short arrival speech, Kim said he looks forward to working with the Philippine government to strengthen the very important partnershi­p between the two countries.

“Now I am finally here to contribute to one of the most important special partnershi­ps anywhere,” he said.

He said there are many important dimensions in the partnershi­p but for him the most meaningful and fundamenta­l is the “deep bond and the extraordin­ary warmth between the peoples of the
