Choosy cab driver who lets off elderly passengers summoned

- By VANNE ELAINE P. TERRAZOLA

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has summoned a taxi driver caught on video for refusing to convey elderly passengers in Mandaluyong recently.

The LTFRB last Friday summoned the driver of the Cashman Transport Corp. unit with plate number UWN-305 to a hearing on December 13 at 9 a.m. for refusing to transport the elderly passengers to their destination.

Worse, the driver allegedly let the elderly passengers off because they wouldn’t agree to additional fare apart from the metered rate.

A video posted by Lambert Morales Rodriguez Jr. on Facebook last November 4 showed the driver taking out the old customers' baggage from his cab's trunk while telling them, "Hindi talaga pwede."

In his post, Rodriguez said the passengers, after lining up for their turn at a taxi bay in Mandaluyong, had already boarded the cab, but was later told by the driver to alight when they did not agree to his terms before bringing them to their destination in Pasig.

The customers, while not seen in the video, could be heard pleading the driver to convey them home. The driver repeatedly refused.

The LTFRB said that should the driver not attend the hearing, he will be charged for violating their Joint Administrtive Order 2014-01.

The agency also ordered the operator to explain within 10 days why its franchise should not be revoked.
