President releases 11B for sick Pinoys

- By ROY C. MABASA

Like a caring father to his sick children, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he has released 11 billion in government funds to help sick Filipinos who are too poor to buy the needed medicine to nurse them back to good health.

“I am thinking of people who are really hard up,” the President said in his speech during the awarding ceremony of the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines Golf Tournament held at the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club in Quezon City Tuesday.

“I released one billion to

those people holding mga reseta (doctor’s prescription) ngayon, na walang mabibili,” Duterte revealed.

“Marami dito sa ating mga kababayan nagkasakit na may reseta ang doctor (many of our fellow Filipinos who are sick have medical prescription by doctors) and they cannot buy it. So for this month and hopefully every month, I will release one billion for those who cannot afford hospitalization or may mga maintenance,” the President assured

The amount, however is separate from the 11 billion he ordered released for the medical upkeep of drug dependents. And he is mulling on releasing a billion more to help in their rehabilitation.

He shared that he requested the Department of Budget and Management to look for funding to attend to the needs of sick Filipinos who are too poor to buy the needed medicines. The President said the sick can just go to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and present their prescriptions.

The Chief Executive reiterated his campaign pledge to rid the country of corruption so that every Filipino will benefit from the taxes collected by government.

His political party, PDP-Laban has started a feeding program to support Duterte’s campaign against poverty which he started in Davao when he was mayor for 23 years.
