- By MARIA INNA FRANCESKA R. LAGAZON

The first thing most of us do after waking up is brew a cup of coffee. Aside from giving us the additional boost we need during the day, the coffee grounds left behind after having that cup of joe has many other practical uses around the house. Here are eight ways you can reuse those grounds:

Keep your refrigerator fresh

Just like charcoal or baking soda, coffee grounds can serve as a deodorizer. You can keep your refrigerator from bad smells by placing a bowl of grounds inside.

• Erase scratches off your furniture

You can fix those scratches off your wooden furniture. Just dip a cotton swab into steeped grounds and dab on scratches to minimize them.

• Kill fleas off your pets

Getting rid of your pets fleas can be a breeze. After shampooing and before rinsing, rub those coffee grounds on your pets’ fur and they’ll be flea free in no time.

• Clean Pots and Pans

Scour away grease and grime from your pots and pans by mixing equal parts of old coffee grounds and baking soda. Don’t forget to rinse thoroughly afterwards.

• Coffee Mask

Want to reduce acne on your face? Mix used coffee grounds with milk and apply and leave on your face for 10 mins. Not only does it reduce acne; but it can reduce puffiness as well.

• Composting

Coffee grounds are acidic and as they degrade they release nitrogen which makes for especially rich compost. They also attract worms and keeps snails, slugs and ants away.

• Roach Trap

Tired of those cockroaches crawling around everywhere? You can lure them into a can or jar filled with an inch or two of moistened coffee grounds. Don’t forget to line the container’s neck with double sided tape!

• Coffee for your Hair

Before you shampoo, simply grab a handful of used grounds and massage them into your hair. It will help remove hair build-up, give your hair a lift and restore its natural healthy shine.
