Manila Bulletin

117 Years into the future

- 2015

On our 117th year, as we take a bold leap forward, we are also returning to our roots. As it turns out, all our explorations into our technology-driven future are for the purpose of improving our primary product at a grassroots level now that, through technology, the grassroots demand more access to everything we have to offer.

Beth Agnew, one of the world’s first Certified Professional Technical Communicators (CPTC), wrote in her essay, “Writing for the Third Millennium,” that writers “have always been society’s visionaries. We now have too much information to rationally deal with on a daily basis, and we need skilled professional help to turn that information into the currency of the next millennium—knowledge.”

Behind The Manila Bulletin’s rich heritage as an industry leader is its unwavering resolve to inform, inspire, and empower the reader, our raison d’etre, the core of our existence. This commitment rings true with even greater resonance today, when the reader is more demanding, more discerning, and with greater access to information than ever before.

On our 117th year, it is clear what our business is all about, growing and changing as it is, evolving and revolutionizing. At the heart of all that we do is our intense focus on the reader who is now also the viewer and the listener.

Our core guiding principle is to constantly uphold truth, fairness, and objectivity. This is the bedrock of The Manila Bulletin: a newspaper is a public trust. We earn public trust and confidence by being truthful, fair, and objective every day that our newspaper is published.

Moving onward to the future, The Manila Bulletin reaffirms its enduring commitment to be the Exponent of Philippine Progress— to inform, inspire, and empower our nation and our people.
