Manila Bulletin

New look, new features part of transformation

-

s The Manila Bulletin (MB) marks its 117th year, it also celebrates more than a century of industry advancements, knowledge, and direction.

This more than one century of history, however, is not stopping the media organization from being a purveyor of change.

While its employees strive to produce a quality print product every single day of the year, the organization has changed the way it delivers the news online. What MB Online readers now see onscreen—we believe— transforms into a visually appealing extension of our thrust: to provide the news readers need to face the day.

The Manila Bulletin’s website (http://mb.com.ph/) offers not only breaking and general news, but also original curated content and even native ads highly distinct from its print parent.

Readers get up-to-the-minute news on what’s going on in the city, the country, and the rest of the world throughout the day and often through the night.

The site is faster. It includes a cleaner design that is easier to navigate and comes with a host of new features, such as more photos, videos, sections, and links, not to mention improved search options.

To prepare for the new look, the MB Online unit spent hours in training sessions leading up to the soft launch in October 2016. We embraced immeasurable challenges, cured countless “bugs,” and addressed inestimable errors to see this transformation take form.

The redesigned mb.com.ph sports a clean and elegant look that offers a better, more intuitive experience. It is fully responsive, providing readers the same look, feel, and functionality no matter what device is being used— desktop or mobile. This means the site will automatically scale and adjust to fit the device being used to view it.

Updates on breaking international and national news complement The Manila Bulletin’s reportage of local news—with strong focus on activities in the three main island groupings of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Top stories from the various sections—including Business, Opinion, Sports, Lifestyle, Entertainment—can be found at the top of the website.

The right side of the website offers readers the latest and newest news from all sources. The letters turn red for Breaking News when a key story is developing—often before a story is available.

Each main section now has a distinct color theme—light green cyan for News, light cyan blue for Opinion, dark pea green for Business, magenta for Entertainment, yellow orange for Sports, pure cyan for Technology, and pastel green for Lifestyle.

The site is also designed to be better integrated with social media, making it easy to connect with The Manila Bulletin pages on Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms.

Other updated features include a section for multimedia news, such as videos, infographs, and photos. Also featured are the e-paper or electronic paper where users can browse through the pages of a virtual newspaper, as well as links to other publications under The Manila Bulletin, such as the iconic Panorama, Tempo, Balita, Going Places, Garage, Style Weekend, and Wedding Essentials.

More important, the new mb. com.ph is more stable, ensuring the website remains up and running anytime, all the time, so it can be accessed whenever and wherever the reader needs it.
