69 LSA athlete-scholars top bets in 2017 EVRAA meet

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte – The 69 heavily-favored Leyte Sports Academy (LSA) scholars are participat­ing the 2017 Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Associatio­n (EVRAA) meet ongoing in Naval, Biliran.

Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla said that the 69 LSA athlete-scholars are entered in track and field, swimming, boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, wushu and archery, among others.

Petilla said that with the participat­ion of the LSA athlete – scholars, he is optimistic that Leyte Division will be the overall champion in this year’s EVRAA meet.

Petilla also told reporters that his office has extended financial assistance worth 13.5 million to the delegation.

Petilla informed reporters that since LSA athletes’ participat­ion in 2010, Leyte Division always landed as the overall champion in regional athletic meet with the most number of gold medals won.

LSA athlete – scholars also compete in national and internatio­nal competitio­ns .

Dr. Ramir Uytico, regional director of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Eastern Visayas said that the 2017 EVRAA meet, adopting the theme “Bracing Sports, Breaking Barriers, and Braving to Lead” officially kicked off last Sunday, February 5, with a grand opening ceremony at the Biliran Provincial Sports Complex in Barangay Larrazabal.

The sports meet will end on February 10.

13 delegation­s from six provinces in Eastern Visayas are taking part in this year’s meet.

Biliran Governor Gerardo J. Espina Jr. said that hosting the regional athletic event is a big boost to his province, which last hosted the event 22 years ago.
