National Day of Iran
TODAY, the Islamic Republic of Iran celebrates its National Day which commemorates the day officially established the theocratic Islamic republic after a successful revolution in 1979. Iran’s national day memorializes the country’s intense political protests against the former monarchial government led by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
With a land area of 1,648,195 square kilometers (second largest country in the Middle East, Iran, also known as Persia, is a sovereign state located in Western Asia. It borders the countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, and Turkmenistan. The country was the cradle one of the earliest civilizations in the world.
Today, Iran has 21 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. With a rich historical and cultural legacy, modern-day Iran is a multicultural country with people from various ethnic and linguistic groups.
Iran’s economy is largely based on its reserves of fossil fuels which also happen to include the largest natural gas supply in the world. Iran also plays a significant role in the international community not only as a founding member of international organizations such as the United Nations, Economic Cooperation Organization, Organization of Petroleum, Exporters Countries and Now Align Movers, but also as an active participant in international peace talks specifically those concerning the use of nuclear weapons.
