Reigning champion La Salle and University of the Philippines gun for a share of the early lead with National University when they go up against separate rivals today in the UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Maroons clash with the University of the East Lady Warriors at 2 p.m. while the Lady Spikers collide with the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses at 4 p.m.

La Salle and UP are favored over their rivals owing to their impressive opening day victories with the Lady Spikers pulling off a 29-27, 25-22, 2523 win over the Far Easter University Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Maroons pulling off a 25-18, 25-11, 25-18 drubbing of the Adamson Lady Falcons.

Despite the graduation of star players Mika Reyes and Ara Galang, the Lady Spikers remain formidable with the presence of with Joy Baron, Kim Dy, and Dawn Macandili

Baron is plugging the hole left by Galang with her solid showing the last time. She’s also a good blocker.

UST’s Cherry Rondina, Pam Lastimosa and EJ Laure need to raise their level of game to have a chance of beating the Lady Spikers.

The deadly troika of Diana Carlos, Kathy Bersola and Issa Molde should give the Lady Warriors big headache if they can’t come up with a solid defensive plan.

Shaya Adorador needs more help if the Lady Warriors are to nail their first win.

In the men's division, UP tangles with UE in the 8 a.m. opener with the Maroons looking for a share of the lead while UST and La Salle aim to bounce back from first-game losses when they battle at 10 a.m.
