Benguet chills at 6°C, Baguio at 8°C on Valentine’s Day
BAGUIO CITY – It was the perfect weather for lovers on Valentine’s day as the mercury dipped to six degrees in Benguet province yesterday, the coldest weather recorded this year because of the northeast monsoon affect-
ing the country.
Danny Galati of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the coldest temperature was recorded in Mount Sto. Tomas, Tuba, Benguet province and the temperature is expected to dip further this month.
The temperature in Baguio City likewise dropped to eight degrees Celcius yesterday. The average temperature in Baguio City is between 10 and 12 degrees according to Ian Jasper Pelayo of PAGASA and the coldest temperature recorded since January is attributed to the northeast monsoon from China and Mongolia.
Pelayo said Baguio City and Benguet province will experience isolated light rains but will generally have a good weather condition throughout the week.
PAGASA-Baguio is anticipating a low temperature of about 7.5ºC until end of February.
The lowest recorded temperature in Baguio City was 6.3ºC on Jan. 18, 1961.
Trekking at Mt. Pulag has been suspended due to the cold weather and rain showers.
