Hit-and-run driver in QC surrenders

- By VANNE ELAINE P. TERRAZOLA

The driver of the luxury car that killed two motorcycle-riding men in a hit-andrun incident Sunday surrendered to police yesterday.

Two days after the incident, Alvin San Pablo, 32, appeared at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), apologizing before the relatives of Lowell Gonzalgo, 26, and Felix Marvin Bose for leaving them for dead after he crashed into their motorcycle along V. Luna Road in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City.

San Pablo, driver of a black Hummer with license plates BEU-200, crashed into the motorcycle in an attempt to counterflow along V. Luna around 5:30 a.m. Sunday. The incident was recorded by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the area.

Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, QCPD director, said San Pablo contacted him after the luxury car’s owner, Eric Santos, appeared the other day to clear his name.

Santos had denied driving the car at the time of the incident, saying he lent the Hummer to a business partner who, later, happened to loan the car to San Pablo. Eleazar said this was the nature of their networking business in order to help them hit their sales target.

In his defense, San Pablo said he was not drunk but tired from a business meeting in Quezon City since he came from his house in Calamba, Laguna.
