- By DANNY J. ESTACIO

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — The 11billion project to connect this province’s north and south road networks will soon get underway with the release of an initial fund of 150 million by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), it was learned yesterday.

District Engineer Cely Flancia of the Quezon 4th District Engineering District Office, here, told The Manila Bulletin that the initial fund to bankroll the Atimonan-Mauban Road Connection Project has been released by DPWH Secretary Mark Villar.

Flancia described the project, initiated by Quezon 4th District Rep. Angelina Tan, as the best for the 4th (South) and 1st (North) Districts of the province as it will shorten travel time going up and down the province.

Spanning 18.93 kilometers, the connecting road is expected to be completed and opened by 2021, depending on the mode of fund release, she said.

Apart from ease in travel, Flancia said the Aimonan-Mauban Road promises to boost economic development, trade, commerce, tourism, and change living conditions to the sleepy towns seated along the coastal portion of the two districts.

On the Atimonan side, the road will cover Barangay Tagbakin and on the Mauban side, the village of Sto. Niño.

Taking charge of fund-sourcing for the project on the Mauban side is Quezon 1st District Rep. Katrina Enverga and Quezon 1st District Engineering Office under Engr. Salvador Salvana.
