M released for death benefits

The Department of Budget and management released R30.928 million to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the claims of beneficiaries of 2,232 deceased barangay officials from January to December 2016. DILG Secretary Ismael D. Sueno said that this is in line with the implementation of Executive Order (EO) No. 115, series of 2002 “Authorizing Payment of Death Benefits to Barangay Officials Who Die during Their Term of Office.” Sueno said the family of a PB who dies during his/her incumbency is given R20,000 for death benefit and R2,000 for burial expenses. On the other hand, a sangguniang barangay member (SBM), BS, BT, and SK chairman, are each entitled to R10,000 for death benefit and R2,000 for burial expense. (Chito A. Chavez)
