DA gives brown rice to char­i­ties

CEBU CITY – The Depart­ment of Agri­cul­ture’s Cen­tral Visayas of­fice is dis­tribut­ing brown rice to se­lected char­i­ties in Cebu.

The dis­tri­bu­tion is the depart­ment’s con­tri­bu­tion to the brown rice cam­paign dubbed #BROWN4­good #Re­gion7 from Au­gust 20to De­cem­ber 5 last year.

Based on the fi­nal and of­fi­cial re­sult of PhilRice, Re­gion 7 gar­nered a to­tal of 38,667 hash­tags, rank­ing sec­ond in the na­tion­wide cam­paign.

This is equiv­a­lent to 3,866.7 ki­los of brown rice to be do­nated to char­i­ties.

Among the char­i­ties that have re­ceived sacks of brown rice at 25 ki­los per bag were: CFIC Broth­ers Foun­da­tion (Liloan, Cebu), My Bonita Home for Girls (Talam­ban, Cebu City), Mis­sion­ar­ies of the Poor (Tal­isay City), Don Bosco Boys HOme, Inc. (Liloan, Cebu), and the Mis­sion­ar­ies of the Poor -Gasa sa Gugma, Inc. (Mabolo, Cebu City).

More brown rice will be do­nated to char­i­ta­ble groups based on the num­ber of hash­tags.

The gen­eral pub­lic is en­cour­aged to con­tinue eat­ing brown rice.

Mean­while, Sal­vador Diputado, the new DA re­gional di­rec­tor, at­tended the Ori­en­ta­tion on Cor­po­rate Rice Farm­ing Pro­gram Re­gional Pro­gram Man­age­ment Com­mit­tee (CRFP-RPMC) and Val­i­da­tion of Farm Ser­vice Provider’s (FSP) Com­mit­ment and Ca­pa­bil­i­ties.

The meet­ing was the fifth in a se­ries of na­tion­wide ori­en­ta­tions con­ducted to­gether with the Se­nior Tech­ni­cal Ac­tion Group (STAG) of DA’s Cen­tral Of­fice, re­gional pro­gram man­age­ment and the FSP.

CRFP is a pro­gram that will help in sup­ply­ing the rice sub­sidy for the Pantawid Pam­ilyang Pilipino Pro­gram (4Ps) of the Depart­ment of So­cial Wel­fare and Devel­op­ment (DSWD).

It also aims to help the farm­ers in­crease their in­come and have ready mar­kets for their pro­duce and en­sures avail­able, af­ford­able and ac­ces­si­ble rice for the 4Ps.
