Speeding UV kills toddler

A one-year-old boy died when he was run-over by a speeding UV Express van Tuesday afternoon in Makati City.

The victim, identified as Jemeryc Golbio Delos Santos, a resident of 2702 Guatemala St., Barangay San Isidro, Makati City, was declared dead on arrival at the 24/7 Barangay Palanan Clinic.

Southern Police District (SPD) spokesperson Supt. Jenny Tecson identified the driver of the UV Express van as John David Gomez Collantes, 23, of 102 New Jersey Annex 22, Parañaque City.

Based on their report, the incident took place at around 4:30 p.m. the other day in front of the newly-built barangay hall of San Isidro on Guatemala Street.

Police said the child was crossing the street when the UV Express van, with plate number UYE-731, hit the victim and ran over him.

Collantes immediately alighted from the van and brought Delos Santos to the nearby clinic together with the victim’s mother.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide will be filed at the Makati City prosecutor’s office against Collantes who is now at the custody of the Makati traffic division. (Jean Fernando)
