- By RAYMUND F. ANTONIO

The brutal murder of environmental advocate Mia Manuelita Mascariñas-Green in Bohol has been condemned in the “strongest terms” by Vice President Ma. Leonor Robredo.

Robredo said Mascariñas-Green was the 12th environmental advocate killed under the Duterte administration.

“It is alarming that in the first seven months of this administration, there are already 12 environment advocates who have been killed,” she said.

The Vice President issued yet another strong statement condemning the murder of Mascariñas-Green.

Robredo has been reacting to a spate of killings in the past months amid the government’s bloody war on drugs.

The lawyer was shot dead by four motorcycle-riding gunmen in front of her three children while headed home in their Toyota Innova in Bohol.

Police are determining if the attack was work-related since Mascariñas-Green belonged to the Environmental Legal Assistance Center, where she handled civil and criminal cases.

Robredo called on authorities to “fast track its investigation” on the killing of and ”bring those responsible to justice and eliminate the culture of impunity in the country.”

Robredo also sent her condolences to the family of Mascariñas-Green.

“Our country lost a fierce environmental advocate and a dedicated alternative lawyer,” she said.
