Hundreds of Bulakeño musicians gather to play OPM
MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan — It was afternoon filled with music and patriotism as hundreds of musicians from six local bands joined together to play beautiful melodies at the “Konsierto ng Musikerong Bulakenyo” at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, here, last Wednesday.
As one of the highlights of the National Arts Month, Original Pilipino Music (OPM) echoed in the gymnasium as the Hiyas ng Bulacan Brass Band, BulSU Symphonic Band, Fortunato Halili Brass Band, DYCI (Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc.) Brass Band, Bocaue Youth Brass Band, at Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School Band played their instruments together.
In a message delivered by Chief of Staff Danilo Faustino, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado expressed his support for the talented musicians who contribute to the flourishing arts and culture of the province.
Prior to this, the Parangal sa Kislap ng Sining ng Bulacan headed by the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office was held wherein three Bulakenyo artists were recognized.
One of the awardees who received high recognition for the Traditional Arts was the famous “master carver” Pedro Esguerra, a native of Pulilan.
For the field of Music, Dr. Herminio Suarez from Balagtas, Bulacan was awarded. He was once the director of Cultural Affairs and Performing Arts in Bulacan State University.
The third awardee was Godofredo Reyes of Hagonoy, Bulacan who is a “master oil painter” was honored in and out of the country for his greatness in the field of Arts and Culture.
