Rhoads to success

- By ALEX V. BROSAS Expectations

Fil-Am model and aspiring actor Matthias Rhoads is now a familiar face among Pinoys, thanks to a popular commercial. The half-Filipino, half -American bagged the opportunity when it presented itself “after I walked at the Philippine Independence Day Parade in New York City which is where I was discovered.”

He then packed his bags and “came here (Philippines) after two weeks and I ended up moving here.”

Work for the 24-year-old started when his management company, Prima Stella MGT Philippines, had him audition for the commercial.

“I auditioned like anyone else. I lined up with a hundred (in the commercial) but from the final casting, they kept putting me as the groom,” he recalled. Just like any other aspiring models, he had hopes he’ll be chosen for the job. “So I was just so happy to find out that I got the job,” he said. While shooting the commercial, Matthias already knew it’s going to be a hit. “I studied advertising so when I heard the story I thought to myself, this has a very strong potential. Especially in the Filipino community, if it has to do with love and heart break. We’re very passionate people. When we feel, we cry. We’re not afraid. I knew then it would be very big.” Although his character in the commercial is “not the nicest guy,” Matthias is overwhelmed by his exposure. “You don’t wanna like me, okay, but it’s the exposure that I got. That’s the card that I was dealt. Of course, the other guy, everybody loves him. And it’s just the character on screen. I try to live positive thoughts,” he said.
