A race of superhuman men
IN my article last week (Part I), I mentioned that there were giants during Biblical times. The Old Testament says so. There are many scattered verses in the Bible about giants. One verse says: “There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.” (Genesis 6:4, King James Version)
*** In the Book of Genesis, we read that God repented that “he had made man in the earth” - when God saw the wickedness of man. There was so much sin and evil on earth. Only one man was found righteous by God. His name was Noah. Many of us are familiar with the story of Noah’s ark and the flood of waters.

However, this article is not about Noah’s ark. Nor is it about the flood. It’s about the giants mentioned in the Holy Bible before and after the flood. One may ask: How many giants were living on the earth before and after the flood? There are no statistics on this. There was no office on statistics then during the Biblical times like our National Statistics Office (NSO). Only estimates based on speculations of the number of giants living before and after the flood are possible. Considering that from the creation of Adam to the flood during Noah’s time , there were about 1,656 years, there were probably hundreds of thousands of giants (the hybrid offspring of the union of the fallen angels (sons of Gods in Genesis 6:4) and human women. Consider too that, according to Moses, there were ten generations of men from Adam to Noah. The truth is that scholars and researchers have not (despite many attempts) come up with figures on the possible number of people who lived on earth when the flood occurred. How then can we have a reliable estimate of the number of giants living on earth before and after the flood? A logical speculation is that when the number of fallen angels mating with human women multiplied due to the long years (approximately 1,656 years) between the creation of Adam to the flood, covering ten generations of men from Adam to Noah, the giants on earth likewise multiplied.
*** There have been reports of various archaeological excavations in various parts of the world – especially in the 1800s – leading to the discovery of giant skeletons, giant bones, giant skulls, and giant footprints (e.g. 22 inches long and 8 to 10 inches wide). The giant skeletons discovered sometimes had jaws and teeth twice as large as ours today and human crania three times as large as an adult human skull. If we assume that the giants’ skulls belong to persons properly proportioned, the height of the giant humans would have been 12 feet tall or taller. There are also many reports of archaeologists finding of weaponry and other artifacts of huge sizes that only giants could have used.
*** Is there evidence that in the early days of man, giants were scattered around the world? In past decades, there have been news of man-like figures sighted that are ten feet tall and taller. Also, there have been reports of discoveries of fossil remains of giants in many countries like China, India, and Vietnam that have aroused excitement among archaeologists.
*** In my last week’s article (Part I), I mentioned the story of the Philistine giant Goliath from Gath. Let me now share another Biblical incident of the existence of giants after the Great Flood. This is found in the Book of Numbers. When Moses sent 12 Israelites to spy on the Promised Land known as Canaan, the name of the land before the Israelites were to invade the place (see Chapter 13, Book of Numbers). The 12 Israelite spies described the Promised Land as a “land flowing with milk and honey” but 10 of the 12 Israelites described the place as well-guarded by giants. In Numbers 13:32-33, 10 of the 12 spies reported: “The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” The story ended with the Israelites pursuing the invasion and occupying Canaan. With the Lord’s intervention, of course.
Also, in Deuteronomy 3:11, we find the following description of the bed of Og, the giant king of Bashan, as follows: “For only Og, king of Bashan, remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? Nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.” (To be continued)
