First eco-trail adventure run launched in La Union
BACNOTAN, La Union — A group of businessmen in La Union has successfully launched the first eco-trail adventure race last Saturday, highlighting the pristine view of Bacnotan town’s Baroro River and its headstream in Tangadan Falls at Barangay Duplas, San Gabriel, La Union.
Cesar Ocampo, the race coordinator and the manager of the River Farm in Barangay Baroro, Bacnotan, La Union, said that a total of 127 runners had participated the trail run in which 29 runners joined the 40-kilometer category and 98 runners for the 6-kilometer category.
“Our first trail run was very successful as we met our target number of participants, and we are planning to have a bigger trail run next year highlighting all the rivers in La Union,” said Ocampo.
“Through this concept, we can create public awareness that we have many rivers in La Union that we need to protect and sustain its environment,” he added.
Ocampo, who is also the vice president of the Hotel Owners and Restaurant Association of La Union, said the eco-trail run is a project of the Rotary Club of San Fernando City, La Union in coordination with the provincial government and different local government units (LGUs) of La Union with an aim to raise funds for the community service programs of the organization benefiting the marginalized sectors in the province.
