Bamboo-planting set at mining site
RIO TUBA, Bataraza, Palawan — A mining company here will plant bamboo to help restore mined areas. Jose Bayani D. Baylon, vice president for corporate communications of the Nickel Asia Corporation, told reporters the company initially will plant bamboo in 20 hectares at its mining site and is currently propagating 10,000 bamboo plants in preparation for the project. He said a multi-million fund has been set aside by the firm for the massive planting effort. The planting of bamboo also supports the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR’s) program to put up bamboo plantations all over the country. (Restituto A. Cayubit)
