KIDAPAWAN CITY– The hilly town of North Upi, dubbed as the summer capital of Maguindana­o, is now hosting this year’s athletic meet of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) that kicked off yesterday with at least 4,000 athletes competing in 21 sports events to produce delegates for the upcoming 2017 Palarong Pambansa. ARMM Education Secretary John Magno urged the athletes and coaching officials representi­ng the Muslim, Christian and lumad sectors to promote both athletic sportsmans­hip and friendship amid religious and cultural diversitie­s. Each of the 10 schools divisions in Maguindana­o, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi provinces and Marawi and Lamitan cities sent an average of 420 athletes and coaching officials, it was learned.
