Sliding satisfaction ratings and some rising concerns

- By FRED LOBO

SATISFACTION ratings of top government officials are on a declining trend, recent surveys show. The people are apparently expecting more from them. Time to wake up and to come up with some brilliancies.

*** While President Duterte was able to maintain his “very good” satisfaction rating at +63 percent from +64, Vice Presideent Leni Robredo’s public satisfaction rating has slid by 11 percentage points in the first quarter SWS survey, or to “moderate” +26 percent from “good” +37 in December and an initial net rating of +49 in September, 2016.

Better political scriptwriters or strategists needed by Yellow Army top guns who wish or want Leni to succeed DU30. *** Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III’s net satisfaction rating has also declined to +29 percent at present from +30 percent in December and +37 last September, 2016.

Young Koko better watch out. Colleagues and potential challengers are apparently waiting for the right timing for a dance showdown on the Senate floor.

*** Likewise, Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno’s net rating was noted to have dropped to + 14 percent from +16 in December last year and +26 in September.

Time for a more active or imaginative Supreme Court – with fast-rolling wheels of justice.

*** However, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez has an improved net satisfaction rating of +12 percent from his previous rating of +10, said SWS.

The No. 2 Star of Davao after “Digong” better be careful though. The recently reported “Battle of the Mistresses” might pull down his pants, err rating, too.

Meanwhile, many Filipinos are expressing concern over the growing political divide in the country as could be seen in social media.

Time for the country to unite and move forward instead of focusing on the extended boxing bout of “Dilawans vs Dutertards.”

***

Agriculture Sec. Manny Pinol said that more budget should be allotted to agriculture, including credit assistance funds for small farmers and fishermen.

Food production and poverty reduction are major challenges that must be addressed.

***

Many people, media men mostly, are still complaining against slow Internet service or frequent interruptions.

Speedy Internet needed for speedy communication and national growth.

***

Households and other power consumers continue to complain against the high cost of electricity in the country, pressing that it should be remedied now.

High electric rates especially in hot summer is a form of electrocution or double jeopardy. Whew!
