- By MARTIN A. SADONGDONG

Apolice officer died after figuring in a four-vehicle collision along East Service Road in Parañaque City Tuesday night.

Senior Inspector Allan Abaquita, chief of Parañaque police investigation unit, identified the victim as Police Officer 1 JC Nel Eugenio, 24, a member of Quezon City Police District (QCPD), and a resident of No. 441, MLQ St., Brgy. Lower Bicutan, Taguig City.

Investigation disclosed that around 10:10 p.m., Eugenio was onboard his motorcycle (OF-3960) and traversing along East Service Road in Brgy. San Martin De Porres when he was bumped from behind by a dump truck (QBQ-792) driven by Virgilio Obregon, 58, of No. 219 Sitio 6, Catmon, Malabon.

Due to the impact, Eugenio lost control of the motorcycle, went under the dump truck and was dragged for about a meter, police said.

Eugenio died on-the-spot with a bashed head and severe injuries in the body, Abaquita said.

The dump truck then smashed into an Isuzu van (ABK-7687), which sent the van bumping into a Toyota Avanza Wagon (ABN-6616).

Obregon surrendered and said that he lost his brakes. He added that he thought of just hitting a tree to stop the truck but it was too late for him to control it.

Abaquita said Eugenio was about to go on duty when the incident happened. All four vehicles previously came from Bicutan and were headed to FTI.

Investigators found Eugenio’s police uniform, service firearm, and several identification cards inside the compartment of the motorcycle.

Obregon was detained at the Parañaque City Police detention cell and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide with damage to property.

Eugenio’s body was lifted to Royalty Funeral Homes for autopsy.
