4 suspects in 12-M heist in Cagayan fall
Four suspected members of a robbery gang from Kalinga province were arrested by police operatives at a beach resort in Barangay Nagattatan, Pamplona, Cagayan last Sunday, a couple of days after allegedly carting away 12 million worth of cash and valuables from a house in the same town.
Chief Superintendent Robert Quenery, regional director of the Cagayan Valley police, identified the four as Joseph Cay-ang, 35; Carlos Kitoyan, 24; Martis Gomez, 31; and Danny Dumanew, 35, all of Kalinga province.
Quenery said that after Friday’s robbery at the house of one Bernardito Manzano in Barangay Casitan, Pamplona, police set up checkpoints on the roads to Ilocos Norte, Tuguegarao City, and Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
However, it was through a tip that police traced the suspects at Nena’s Resort in Barangay Nagattatan at 5:50 p.m. Sunday.
Police seized from the suspects two vehicles, two sachets of suspected “shabu;” a fragmentation grenade; and the Smart phones earlier stolen from Manzano’s house.
Supt. Chevalier Iringan, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 2 (PRO2), told The Manila Bulletin yesterday that the suspects were still being probed as to the whereabouts of the 11 million cash and 11 million worth of jewelry pieces and other gadgets they had allegedly stolen.
Quenery vowed to work for the arrest of the group’s leader and other cohorts.
