‘Kalayaan Routes’ opening seen to ease traffic in Imus

- By ANTHONY GIRON

IMUS, Cavite — The local government approved yesterday an ordinance which will allow private cars access to the streets of at least nine big subdivisions in this city as part of the so-called “Kalayaan Routes” aimed at easing traffic congestion.

Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi signed the “Kalayaan Route” ordinance authored by Councilor Leonardo Antonio O. Deocadis which will open the roads in at least nine subdivisions as “alternate routes” to ease congestion along Aguinaldo Highway, Molino and Daanghari Roads.

These subdivisions are Covina and Cita Italia in Barangay Buhay Na Tubig, Baylumville, Holiday Ville, Margelo and Vilma in Bayan Luma, La Terraza in Buncandala and Green Gate and Green Estate in Malagasang.

Under the scheme, private vehicles owned by non-residents of these subdivisions will have to secure stickers with corresponding fees; and abide by the speed limit of 20-40 kilometers. Motorcycles and cargo trucks will not be given access to the Kalayaan Routes.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (District Council) deliberated the “Kalayaan Route” proposal after Deocadis, concerned committee members, subdivision association officials and other concerned groups conducted public hearings.

In the resolution, Deocadis said: “To address the problem of worsening of traffic condition in the city, alternative access roads shall be provided through opening and interconnection of roads inside private subdivisions, villages and compounds to serve as “Kalayaan Routes.”

The Deocadis ordinance was approved by Vice Mayor Arnel “Ony” Cantimbuhan and majority of the councilors in a session.
