Makati paid R7 M for movie passes of PWDs, seniors

The city government of Makati has paid a whopping R7 million to five cinema owners for the free movie passes availed by senior citizens and persons with disability (PWDs) from January to March 2017.

Accounting Department officer-incharge William Dayrit reported that for the first quarter of the year, the city paid

R6,604,171.27 for the free movie tickets of senior citizens and

R486,441.78 for PWDs, representi­ng the 25percent share of the city government in the cost of movie tickets used under its freemovies program.

Dayrit noted the breakdown of the R7million payment as follows: ALI Commercial Center, R2,973,700.68 for senior citizens and

R215,362.62 for PWDs; Rockwell Land Corporatio­n, R2,026,421.25 for senior citizens and

R157,353.25 for PWDs; and Century City Developmen­t Corporatio­n, R438,558.00 for senior citizens,

R29,575.87 for PWDs. Other payments made were to: Willimson, Inc. which received P824,004.35 for senior citizens and R64,926.80 for PWDs; and Adebe Realty Company, Inc., R341,486.99 for senior citizens and

R19,223.24 for PWDs. Dayrit said the program covered 77,685 senior citizens and 8,110 registered PWDs of Makati.

Mayor Abigail Binay said the program formed part of the plan to “raise the quality of life of the senior citizens and PWDs” in Makati.

“The city government is very grateful to our program partners for sharing our commitment to raising the quality of life of elderly and PWD Makatizens in every way possible. We thank you for your consistent support to this program which has given priceless joy to our beneficiar­ies for several years now,” Binay said. (Martin Sadongdong)
