ILOILO CITY — West Visayas State University (WVSU) in this city has eight graduates in the Top 10 of this year’s nursing board examination.
Mary Angelie Cardente Cabañez topped the board with a rating of 86.20 percent.
Other WVSU graduates in the Top 10 were Nechelyn Pepito Consular (fourth); Alyssa Jude Mediodia Montalban (fifth); Joane Christine Pedrola (sixth); Lourence Ann Cabillo Garrido (seventh); Julie May Lauron Suganob (seventh); Darlyne Palmes Esposo (eighth); and Princess Nillasca Meliton (ninth).
Overall, the Board of Nursing under the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ranked WVSU also ranked second among schools with the highest passing rate with 99.21percent.
Luis Sorolla Jr., WVSU president, said the school’s consistently high performance in the nursing board exam is proof that it “continues to be a center of nursing education.”
WVSU had ranked first with a 100 percent passing rate for four consecutive years until 2016.
Sorolla also disclosed that government is shouldering the tuition of all students enrolled at WVSU’s College of Medicine for this academic year.
He said WVSU is one of eight state colleges and universities (SUCs) with a P39-million budget for free tuition of medical students. (Tara Yap)
