Simangan elected national BSP Board Member
Manila Bulletin’s Vice President for Circulation Dept. Dante Simangan has been elected as National Board Member of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) at its National Headquarters in Manila, last Friday.
Serving as BSP Board Member of Davao City Council since 1995, Simangan was added to the national leadership of BSP together with 14 newly elected Board Members.
Simangan, who hails from Davao City, and who has been consistent in serving the BSP for the past 22 years, said “with the recent problems now involving the youth offenders, I strongly believe that one of the avenues in reducing, if not eradicating the problem, is by way of introducing scouting not only in schools, but also in the communities.”
He said, “the programs and activities being conducted by the BSP are very effective in making the youths more responsive to the needs and development of the communities, so that if scouting values and skills are imparted to the young people, they will surely become good citizens of our country.”
Along with Simangan, elected into office as sectoral board members were: Former Vice President Jejomar Binay; Mayor Franco Calida of Hagonoy; Surigao del Norte Governor Sol F. Matugas; Pepito M. Carpio; Efren Edgar Dieta; Cedrick Train; Francisco Abayari, Jr.; Jimmy A. Ang; Henry Dy; Rene Relampagos; Atty. Emilio B. Aquino; Jose Eduardo Delgado; Iligan City Councilor Petronilo G. Pardillo and Gerry Ong Tan.
The board members will elect among themselves their executive committee and national officers currently headed by its president Atty. Wendel Avisado, on June 30.
