Jeepney drivers should stop putting signboards on windshields

- By YAS D. OCAMPO

DAVAO CITY — The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) maintains that they will still call the attention of jeepneys that insist on displaying their signboards at any part of the windshield, as this is in violation of Land Transportation and Franchise Regulatory Board (LTFRB) rules.

In an interview, CTTMO Officer-inCharge (OIC) Rhodelio Poliquit said the traffic office will be strictly implementing the law, even if this was not explicitly mentioned as among the violations in Republic Act 10913 or the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (ADDA).

Poliquit, however, said that the agency will delay making any apprehensions this week, until the department receives its marching orders from CTTMO Chief Dionisio Abude.

Abude is on official business in Cebu City.

Poliquit added that the CTTMO will maintain a “wait-and-see” attitude for the meantime, as it also prepares for a possible transport strike this week.

Jeepney drivers have been used to posting signboards on their windshields that indicate the public utility vehicle’s (PUV) destination or route.

And whether or not this was covered by the ADDA still has to resolved by the CTTMO, particularly Abude.

Traffic agencies have also not clarified whether jeepneys operators will be allowed to enlarge the size of letters printed on the side of the vehicles, as these already contain the routes of the franchise.

Signboards and their display in PUVs are covered regulations laid down in section 41 of department order 2014 of the LTFRB.
