LMP holds ‘Tabang Marawi’

-

The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) held its “Tabang Marawi” project recently in Baloi, Lanao del Norte to help over 5,000 families displaced by the Marawi siege.

In its July monthly meeting, the LMP Executive Committee (Execom), led by National President Maria Fe V. Brondial of Socorro, Oriental Mindoro, said “the LMP expresses its deep concern and sympathy over the plight of the evacuees from Marawi City.”

As a token of their concern, the Execom members pledged to donate from their respective chapters the amount of 150,000 to purchase the needed food and supplies for the evacuees.

LMP was able to provide 5,500 pieces of 5-kilo sacks of first class rice to the victims’ families, after receiving reports that some of the donated NFA rice caused stomach problems for the evacuees.

Aside from the rice, over 15,000 items were also donated by the LMP chapter of Misamis Occidental, which included various canned goods, noodles and baby diapers.

The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) is an organization of all the 1,489 municipalities of the Philippines, mandated by law. Aside from Brondial, the LMP is also led by Mayor Sandy Javier of Javier, Leyte as its Executive Vice President; and Mayor Abraham Burahan of Hadji Panglima Tahil, Sulu as its Secretary General.

Meanwhile, some Nueva Ecija farmers donated cash for the rebuilding of Marawi, according to Agriculture Secretary Manny F. Piñol.

Piñol did not disclose the amount contained in a brown envelop he earlier received from the donor-farmers and turned over personally to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in the latter’s visit in Ormoc City last July 13. (Ali G. Macabalang)
