Joyce Bernal has high hopes for unusual rom-com

Director Joyce Bernal fell in love with the script of “Kita Kita” right away that’s why it got the greenlight sans hitch.

“Hindi ko siya pinag-isipan ng matagal,” she said. “Wala pong masyadong processing na nangyari, naniwala ako agad sa materyal.”

The director revealed the seeds that eventually became “Kita Kita” were planted by a man named Erwin “Lucky” Blanco, who previously worked on movies like “Kimmy Dora And The Temple Of Kiyeme,” “Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel,” and “Relaks, It’s Just Pag-ibig.”

No doubt, Yassi Pressman is among loveliest faces in showbiz today. That she is also blessed with curves most women would kill for is just icing on the cake.

In a recent interview with Bulletin Entertainm­ent, Yassi spilled her secret to looking radiant and the first thing she mentioned is her drinking lots of water.

Yassi deemed it a necessity mentioning the long hours she spends under the glare of the spotlight.

She refrains from wearing makeup when not working. She washes her face regularly with soap and water “lalo na sa gabi para when you wake up, fresh ka.” The actress revealed using papaya soap and lotion for her sensitive skin.

She also monitors her food intake.

“You have to really balance everything out,” she said. “Ako kasi mahilig ako sa sweets, sa cheese but I make sure na I balance it out with fruits.”

The most important ingredient to looking beautiful, the actress said, is maintainin­g a happy dispositio­n.

“Du’n lalabas talaga ’yung glow tayo ng romantic comedy ng mga pangit, kasi puro na lang gwapo at maganda ang bida sa ganung klaseng pelikula,’” Direk Joyce related. “Ang idea ni Lucky, mo kapag masaya ka sa loob,” she related. kung gagawa nga kami ng ganu’ng project, sa magandang lugar namin dapat kunan.”

The Spring Films team took Lucky’s suggestion and ran with it. They chose to shoot most of the movie in Japan and brought in awardwinni­ng filmmaker Sigrid Bernardo – known for the indies “Ang Huling Chacha Ni Anita” and “Lorna” – to direct, and cast Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez in the lead roles.

Yassi is into traveling describing it as something that feeds her soul.

“Basta when I do, I like being surrounded by my friends and sometimes ’yung family ko. That way parang nagba-bonding lang kami.”

She doesn’t mind taking unplanned trips. In fact, she is ready to drive long hours even after work.

“Meron one time na nag-pack up kami ng 3 a.m., tapos by 5 a.m. bumiyahe agad ako to La Union,” she said. “Then there’s this one time na after taping, nagpunta kami ng Subic. Tapos nag ATV (All-terrain vehicle) kami. Sobrang intense at sobrang pagod ako pero sobrang saya.”

Yassi’s favorite place is the beach. “I love the sun, I love the beach basta ’yun ’yung nakakapag-pasaya sa akin,” she said. Beautiful, smart and talented, the 22-year-old is among the industry’s most falls in love with a man she can’t see because of a medical condition that caused her to lose her eyesight. But Joyce clarified that Alessandra’s character isn’t permanentl­y blind – which she says is a plot point that will become a big part of the movie’s story. She also took the time to commend Alessandra and Empoy on the way they brought their characters to life. She said “Kita Kita” owes its charm to their engaging chemistry and emotionall­y honest performanc­es.

“Nagkaroon lang siya ng temporary blindness due to stress,” Direk Joyce said. “Napaka-solid at timely talaga ng story nitong ‘Kita Kita.’ Plus lalong itong naging maganda dahil sina Alessandra at Empoy ang bida dito. Nag-wowork ’yung movie dahil sa kanila. They made it solid.”

Even before the movie opens in theaters nation- sought after leading ladies. Doesn’t she feel overworked? “Hindi naman po, ginusto ko ’to eh,” she said, laughing. Yassi is grateful for the blessings that come her way, admitting the road to success hasn’t always been easy. “Napakarami­ng obstacles, napakarami­ng challenges. Napakarami­ng pagkakatao­n na feeling ko hindi ko na kaya but I have to be strong kasi may mga taong naniniwala na kakayanan ko,” she said, adding her father serves as her number one supporter. Aside from “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyan­o,” the actress will also be seen in the upcoming film “Ang Pambansang Third Wheel.” Yassi hopes to explore dancing and singing, too. “Sana ma-share ko pa po ’yung sa pagkanta ko kasi dati pangarap ko lang sa shower ’yun eh,” she said. Yassi is Silka’s latest ambassador. Direk Joyce is pleased as punch over people’s reaction to the first teaser. She said if people thought the teaser was beautifull­y made, they need to watch the movie because the rest of it is so much better.

“Look test and cam test lang po namin ’yun, tapos nu’ng nakita naming lahat na maganda siya, nagdecide po kami na gawing teaser. Hindi po siya sa Japan ginawa. Dito lang ’yun sa Pilipinas kinunan. Kaya kung nagandahan na sila sa teaser na ’yun, abangan nila ’yung mga susunod at siyempre pati ’yung mismong pelikula kasi sa Japan na ginawa ’yun.”

Furthermor­e, Direk Joyce isn’t shy about the fact that she’s proud of the “Kita Kita” and has high hopes for it.

“Eto ’yung result ng hard work ng Spring Films, at sana kung kumita siya, o kung ano man ’yung maachieve niya na success, ito ’yung path na gagawin namin para sa industriya.”
