1 billionair­e, several multi-millionair­es in Cabinet

According to 2016 SALN

The Duterte Cabinet includes a lone billionair­e and several multi-millionair­es based on their 2016 Statements of Assets, Liabilitie­s and Net worth (SALNs).

Of the SALNs of 28 Cabinet members released by Malacañang, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar has emerged as the richest Cabinet official with net worth amounting to 11.409 billion.

Villar, the only billionair­e in the President’s official family, declared seven real estate properties worth 1134 million and personal properties amounting 11.288 billion. His liabilitie­s reached 114.5 million.

Villar is the son of Senator Cynthia Villar and former Senator and real estate magnate Manuel Villar. He is married to party-list lawmaker Emmeline Aglipay.

The poorest cabinet member, on the other hand, is Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano with a net worth of 1273,629. His wealth is mostly in cash amounting 1228,629. He had no real estate property listed in the SALN.

The informatio­n was culled from the partial list of SALNs of Cabinet members released by Malacañang yesterday, July 20. Most of the Cabinet officials are richer than President Duterte who had a net worth of 127.4 million as of 2016.

The documents came more than two months after a freedom of informatio­n request was filed by the Palace media.

A far second from Villar is Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez who has a net worth of 1351.859 million. Dominguez, a former businessma­n, has nine real estate properties worth an estimated 157 million and personal properties amounting to 1351 million. He had no liabilitie­s.

The third richest cabinet member is Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Technology Secretary Rodolfo Salalima with a net worth of 1 04.961 million. He has one house and lot worth 164 million. His personal properties, including cash, stocks and cars, reached 1240 million.

In fourth place is Transporta­tion Secretary Arthur Tugade whose fortune is pegged at 1301.999 million. Most of his assets are cash, antiques, jewelry and shares of stocks. He had no liability.

Former Environmen­t Secretary Gina Lopez ranked fifth richest Cabinet member with 1266 million. Her nine real estate properties cost 1189 million while personal properties reached 1136 million.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and Presidenti­al Communicat­ions Secretary Martin Andanar ranked sixth and seventh richest Cabinet members, respective­ly.

Cusi declared a net worth of 1162 million with 15 real properties amounting to 142 million and personal properties worth 1119 million.

Andanar’s net worth is 1152 million based on his 2016 SALN. He owns nine real estate properties worth 170 million and has personal properties amounting to 1100.46 million.

In eighth place is Socioecono­mic planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia with a net worth of 1105 million. He has seven real estate properties worth 1 31.7 million and personal properties worth 1115 million.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano ranked ninth wealthiest cabinet member with a net worth of 154.73 million. His wealth includes one condominiu­m unit worth 11.4 million and personal properties reaching 154.8 million.

The 10th richest Cabinet member is Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez with net worth reaching 150.5 million. His four real estate properties are worth an estimated 110.5 million while his personal properties cost 140 million.

Also richer than the President are Tourism Wanda Teo (144 million), Presidenti­al adviser on the peace process Jesus Dureza (140 million), and Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre (137 million).

The cabinet members slightly poorer than Duterte are Agricultur­e Secretary Emmanuel Piñol ( 1 25 million), National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon (122 million), Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno 119 million), National Intelligen­ce Coordinati­ng Agency head Alex Monteaguad­o (116 million), Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III (115 million), acting Interior and Local Government Secretary Catalino Cuy (114.7 million), National Commission on Muslim Filipinos head Yasmin Lao (113 million).

The other Cabinet members’ wealth based on 2016 SALN are as follows: Acting Presidenti­al Management Staff head Ferdinand Cui (17.9 million), Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato dela Peña (17.4 million), Education Secretary Leonor Briones (14.3 million), Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana (13.6 million), Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo (11.9 million), and Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial (11.1 million).

The two non-millionair­e Cabinet members are National AntiPovert­y Commission head Liza Maza (1730,716) and DAR Secretary Mariano (1273,629).
