BaliPure regroups after stumble

BaliPure bounced back from a thirdset stumble as it bested tough Adamson University, 25-18, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, yesterday to keep its semifinal hunt alive in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.

Las Piñas Coliseum’s 28th Anniversar­y 6-stag derby drew 104 entries as of yesterday with more than four weeks to go before it starts on Aug.23.

All locally-banded stags of breeders groups affiliated with FIGBA (Bakbakan), PFGB (Digmaan), LGBA young and old will be accepted.

For the 3-stag elims on Aug. 23, 30, Sept. 6 and 13, a maximum of 60 entries will be allowed. Grand finals (3 -stag) is on Sept. 27.

The top 64 advanced to the knockout phase set to start Wednesday with Go squaring off with No. 47 Ellie Szeryk of Canada.

Fortuna, seeking to duplicate former The Country Club teammate Princess Superal’s title conquest in 2014, will clash with No. 43 Stephanie Carras of Michigan in the last pairing. with 10 points including three blocks, while setter Jasmine Nabor also provided needed defensive reinforcem­ents with four blocks and finished with eight points and 32 excellent sets.

Jema Galanza and Chiara Permentill­a topscored for Adamson with 18 and 15 points, respective­ly, but failed to topple a tough BaliPure side.

Adamson was shown the door after absorbing its fifth defeat against a lone win, joining eliminated squads Power Smashers (1-5) and University of the Philippine­s (1-5).
