‘Huaning’ leaves PAR, but rains to prevail in Luzon

- By ELLALYN DE VERA RUIZ

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has lifted all tropical cyclone warnings as storm “Huaning” (international name “Haitang”) left the country's area

of responsibility Monday morning.

Huaning will no longer directly affect the country but PAGASA warned that sea travel remains risky over the coastlines of Northern Luzon, and the western seaboard of Central Luzon.

Light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will still prevail over Bataan, Zambales, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Cagayan Valley, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to deliver 500 family food packs for families affected by heavy rains spawned by Huaning and southwest monsoon in Mountain Province.

Apart from this, the DSWD-Field Office in CAR extended about P8,874.48 worth of initial aid to the municipality of Bakun, Benguet.

The DSWD-Field Office in Ilocos Region extended 142,578 worth of assistance to the province of La Union, which was also affected by heavy rains.

The DSWD said 157 families or 642 persons from Ilocos Region, CAR, CALABARZON, and Metro Manila are currently staying in 11 evacuation centers in the said regions, while 1,172 displaced families or 5,403 persons are staying outside evacuation centers in Ilocos Region and CAR.

It maintains its coordination with affected local government units (LGUs) for updates on the displaced families and requests for augmentation support.

DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said its central and field offices are always ready to assist municipalities and cities in need of augmentation support if their resources are no longer enough for their affected constituents.
