VP’s supporters raise R6 M for poll counter-protest fee
The “Piso para sa Laban ni Leni,” an online campaign launched by a group of women supporting Vice President Maria Leonor ‘Leni’ Robredo, has raised about R6 million for her election counter protest fee.
The women, who are all awardees of The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service, asked the Supreme Court (SC), sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, to let them directly deposit the amount collected from their fundraising campaign.
“Our movement is a testament how Filipinos from all over the country value and want to protect their votes,” said Museo Pambata founder Cristina LimYuson, one of the petitioners.
“We will continue to ask support until we reach the amount needed,” she added.
Robredo, who is facing an election protest filed by former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., has to pay the second tranche of the counter protest fee amounting to R7.4 million, after she initially paid R8 million on May 2.
