Truckers’ caravan protests phase-out
A caravan launched by various trucker owners yesterday vowed to exercise all possible legal options to thwart the bid of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to phase out 15-yearl old or older trucks under its Transportation Modernization plan. At least 150 members of various trucking groups joined the protest action as they launched a sit down strike in front of the LTFRB central office where they strongly opposed the plan. Most of the truckers belong to the Bulacan Truckers and Integrated Truckers Haulers Association. Ted Gervacio of INTHA insisted that instead of the phaseout plan the government should simply look at the road worthiness of the vehicles and not on the year of its manufacturing date. (Chito A.
