Nepotism case

Former Mayor Romeo M. Estrella Baliwag, Bulacan, has been charged with two counts of graft and one count of falsification before the Sandiganbayan for appointing his niece as the Labor General Foreman of the municipality. Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer I Elbert L. Bunagan wrote in the charge sheets against him that Estrella violated Section 3(e) of R.A. 3019, Section 59 Book V of Executive Order No. 292 in relation to Section 79 of R.A. 7160, and Article 171(4) of the Revised Penal Code on March 16, 2011 when he made the appointment of Julieta Estrella Laguna, daughter of his brother Matias Maniego Estrella, for the position.
