Cebu investment outlook bullish

CEBU CITY – Assured by Philippine National Police (PNP) that Cebu is safe and peaceful, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is confident the province can attract more investors.

CCCI President Melanie Ng said the assurance from PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa that the police will do its best to protect Cebu from terrorists or insurgents can only boost the booming local economy.

Dela Rosa, who was guest speaker during the CCCI General Membership Meeting Friday night, said the police will make sure that terrorists and New People's Army (NPA) rebels will not be able to wreak havoc in Cebu.

“Our goal it to make businessmen feel safe at all times,” he said.

Dela Rosa believes Cebu remains to be conducive for business amid the terrorist attacks in other parts of the country.

"There is crisis in Marawi, there are crimes in Metro Manila. We are solving that. But we have to keep Cebu peaceful and free from terrorism. Kung madisgrasya ang Cebu by an act of terrorism, ano pa ang ating maipagmamalaki sa ibang bansa?" he said.

During the CCCI meeting, 53 new member-companies were inducted, adding to the chamber's 790 membership base.

Ng said CCCI aims to increase engagement with members through the use of digital technology to address sector-specific concerns.
