Palace expands Order of Lapu Lapu award
The rise of valiant and kind Marawi heroes has prompted Malacañang to expand the medal classification of the Order of Lapu-Lapu to more truly reflect the honor bestowed on recipients.
In Executive Order No. 35, the Order of Lapu-Lapu is now divided into four medals, namely Magalong, Kalasag, Kampilan and Kamagi in recognition of the invaluable service of individuals in relation to President Duterte’s campaign or advocacy.
The new order amended EO 17 issued last April that created the Order of Lapu-Lapu. The order was previously comprised of the Lapu-Lapu, Kalasag and Kampilan medals.
“The recent crisis of Marawi City, Lanao del Sur brought forth valiant and benevolent acts of civilians and members of the military to ensure the safety and security of Filipino citizens in Mindanao,” the order read.
“Among these acts of valor and kindness are some that may be described as ordinary acts of service and exceptional contributions to the country, the proper recognition of which calls for the revision and expansion of the medals in the Order of Lapu-Lapu to more truly reflect the honor being bestowed on its recipients,” it added.
With such development, the Palace said there was a need to amend EO 17 “to ensure that the Order of LapuLapu is conferred upon all who are deserving of merit and recognition and to fully express the President’s appreciation of the Filipino people’s contributions to the success of the campaigns and programs of the government.”
