Get the job done, fast – Duterte; calamity housing to LGUs – VP

- By FRED LOBO anyong mabait. Kasi

PRESIDENT Duterte has ordered his Cabinet and other appointed officials to work harder and get the job done fast.

No to red tape and delays to the inconvenience of the public, the Punisher said. *** Likewise, Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo has proposed that housing assistance for victims of natural or man-made disasters and calamities be expedited through direct handling by local government units.

Translation: Housing delayed is housing denied!

*** Duterte denounced as “very bad” the practice in some government offices of processing simple paper work for 10 to 15 working days.

Que barbaridad! No more delays,

Duterte said there is no basis to speculations that he and former Presidents Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, and Benigno C. Aquino III were appointing military officials to prevent coup attempts.

“We are afraid of the military? We are not afraid of the military. We are actually impressed with the military and police because you can order them to work,” he said.

*** The President said military officials work faster than some civilian personnel who take a long time to complete a task, like processing simple paperwork for 10 to 15 days.

“Very bad,” Duterte described such red tape. ***

Duterte expressed confidence that Armed Forces chief of staff Eduardo Año would perform well in his new job as the next secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

All set for Año to assume his Cabinet post upon his October retirement from the service.

*** Duterte said he wanted Año to supervise the Philippine National Police (PNP) which he claimed has recently encountered or given him some problems.

Generals are known for competence and efficiency, he said. *** The President added that the new DILG chief will have supervision over the national police, which has been rocked by the supposed involvement of its members in illegal drugs and other lawless activities.

Hail the chief! Hail the new DILG chief!

*** Meanwhile, VP Robredo hit the slow emergency shelter assistance for calamity victims because of the centralized approach of the government in handling the housing needs of affected communities.

“Download to the LGU the budget for housing because I think it’s the only way to hasten it,” Robredo urged.

*** The Vice President said that the local officials should be given roles in the speedy construction of houses for calamity victims.

Yes to speedy government action. And no more red tape, please.
