M for W. Visayas agri-fishery projects

ILOILO CITY — Secretary Manny Piñol of the Department of Agricultur­e (DA) has launched 1233 million worth of agricultur­al and fishery projects for Western Visayas region.

Piñol’s second official visit to the region is focused on island province of Guimaras, which has more than 1185 million worth of projects. Piñol launched Tuesday the 1130-million farm-to-market road rehabilita­tion between Jordan and San Lorenzo towns under the Philippine Rural Developmen­t Project. A 117.1-million fund was turned over by Philippine Crop Insurance Corporatio­n for claimant farmers. A Rice Processing Center worth 15.94 million was also turned over to Guimaras Seed Growers Multi-Purpose Cooperativ­e.

Remelyn Recoter, DA director for Western Visayas, said Piñol also visited the Bureau of Plant Industry’s Guimaras National Crop Research, Developmen­t and Production Support Center.

On August 9, Piñol will launch 147million agri-fishery projects in Hamtic town, Antique province. He is also set to talk to garlic and onion growers of Miag-ao town, Iloilo province.

During his August 8-9 visit, Piñol also distribute­d equipment to farmers and fiber glass boats to fishermen.

Meanwhile, Western Visayas’ DA press corps chaired by Maricyn de los Santos of The Daily Guardian newspaper also took their oath before Piñol.
