New E. Visayas PNP chief assumes post

CAMP RUPERTO KANGLEON, Palo, Leyte — The new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Eastern Visayas was installed Wednesday in rites at the Police Regional Office grandstand here. Chief Supt. Gilbert D. Cruz replaced Chief Supt. Elmer C. Beltejar who reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 Wednesday. Cruz, who was sworn into office by Police Deputy Director for Administra­tion Ramon C. Apolinario, vowed to continue the programs of the PNP in Eastern Visayas, especially the fight against illegal drugs. Beltejar thanked all the sectors in the region for their support during his term.
