Memories of the King on his 3rd visit

- By JONAS TERRADO

Getting a photo with LeBron James during his recent tour of Manila can surely be tough, but Ranidel de Ocampo was smart enough to have one in the most unique way possible.

De Ocampo didn't mind getting posterized by the great NBA star with one of his thunderous dunks during the final minutes of the exhibition game between past and present members of Gilas Pilipinas Saturday night at the Mall of Asia Arena – a moment that was captured by photographers and video cameras while catching the attention of several US-based sports websites.

The TNT KaTropa star tried to do a chasedown block on the streaking James but was too far from even catching the Cleveland Cavaliers standout, who threw down a right-handed slam with ease.

His failed attempt prompted past and present teammates to rib him on social media, which De Ocampo took in good stride.

“Sakto ang picture, kuya Troy,” De Ocampo told younger TNT teammate Troy Rosario on Twitter.

Ray Parks Jr. had an experience he will never forget after completing an alley-oop dunk from a James pass from halfcourt. The member of the Southeast Asian Games-winning Gilas team described as the “best moment of my life.”

Seven-foot-two wonder Kai Sotto nearly completed one off James, but his two-handed dunk attempt bounced off the rim. Still, the opportunity to play with the four-time NBA MVP was unforgettable for the young prodigy, who hours earlier was given a few points during a training session at Kerry Sports gym in Bonifacio Global City.

Paul Lee took a chance of seeing action in the exhibition to shake hands with James while pulling up a three a few feet from him while Kiefer Ravena spent time taking practice shots alongside James during a break in the action.

Ravena's girlfriend, volleyball star Alyssa Valdez, finally saw The King in the flesh. Two years ago, the former Ateneo standout got stuck in traffic and failed to witness James' event at the same venue.

But Valdez made sure she would not miss such opportunity again, even posting a few photos with James in the background.
