At least 16 congressmen endorsed last night another impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno.

Filed two weeks ago by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) and the Vanguards of the Philippine Constitution, Inc. (VPCI), the complaint was finally accepted by House Secretary General Cesar Pareja after the endorsers and complainants took their oath to verify it.

Last week, lawyer Larry Gadon filed a 54-page impeachment complaint against Sereno. It gained 25 endorsers.

“The complaint will finally be processed and sent to the Office of Speaker Alvarez as soon as it is verified by the complainants and endorsed by even a single House member,” said Pareja.

Lanao del Sur Rep. Mauyag Papandayan Jr. said he thoroughly studied the complaint and is convinced that Sereno should be removed from office.

Others who endorsed the new complaint were: Deputy Speakers Fredenil Castro (PDP-Laban, Capiz) and Sharon Garin (AAMBIS OWA) ; Reps. Enrico Pineda (1Pacman Partylist); VG Lacson (Manila Teachers Partylist); Benhur Lopez (Yacap Partylist); Jerry Trenas (LP, Iloilo); Arnulfo Teves (PDP-Laban, Negros Occidental); Ben Evardone (PDP-Laban, Eastern Samar); Rogelio Espina (NPC, Biliran); Arthur Defensor (NP, Iloilo); Ferjenil Biron (PDP-laban, Iloilo); Joseph Stephen Paduano (Abang Lingkod); Raul Tupas (LP, Iloilo); Benhur Salimbangon (NUP, Cebu) and Carlito Marquez (NUP, Aklan).

Lawyer Manuelito Luna, counsel for the complainants, said that in the new complaint, the Chief Justice is being accused of culpable violation of the Constitution.
