41 child-friendly LGUs
CONSOLACION, Cebu – For promoting child-friendly local governance, 41 local government units (LGUs) in the province of Cebu received the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance (SCFLG) from the Department of Interior and Local Government.
The LGUs topped the recent assessment of the Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA) of the DILG, said DILG Assistant Regional Director for Central Visayas Elias Fernandez.
“This is a recognition system for local government units delivering clear and outstanding positive results for children,” said Fernandez.
The LGUs were Minglanilla, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, Boljoon, Alcoy, Oslob, Santander, Samboan, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Alegria, Badian, Moalboal, Ronda, Alcantara, Dumanjug, Barili, Pinamungajan, Balamban, Asturias, Tuburan and Tabuelan, San Remigio, Madridejos, Bantayan, Sta. Fe, Medellin, Daanbantayan and Tabogon.
The towns of Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Compostela, Liloan, San Francisco, Tudela, Pilar, Consolacion and Cordova also passed the CFLGA indicators.
In rating the towns, Fernandez said the indicators being considered include the decreasing incidence of death of children below 5 years old and decreasing number of underweight children 6 years old and below.
Other indicators are the increasing number of 3 to 4-year-old children attending day-care, increasing number of elementary graduates and the absence of child laborers, he said.
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Director Evelyn Macapobre said the ratings were initiated by the DILG last year with the help of DSWD, DepEd and the Cebu provincial government.
Under a DILG circular issued in July 7, 2014, an LGU that passes the CFLGA will receive the Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance.
