Mom drowns after saving 4 kids from floodwater­s

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – A woman died while three landslides were triggered when tropical storm “Maring” battered parts of Luzon, including Cavite.

Cavite Governor Jesus Crispin Remulla reported that “Maring” left a trail of destructio­n in the province, where classes remain suspended yesterday.

“Let us all help in the recovery of the province of Cavite, our cities and municipali­ties, from the damage of typhoon Maring, ” Remulla said.

Killer flood Trixia Flores of the Cavite Office of Public Safety (COPS), reported that 42-year-old Rossie Nasayao drowned while trying to save her four children from the raging floodwater­s that swept away shanties in Barangay Biluso in upland Silang town.

Nasayao’s body was recovered before noon Tuesday in a river in Barangay San Agustin II in neighborin­g Dasmariñas.

COPS and Police Provincial Office (PPO) said that there were reports of landslides on Monday night and before dawn Tuesday in the municipali­ties of Carmona, General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), and Silang.

The PPO reported that a family of five was brought to a hospital for treatment after the landslide in Altarez, Barangay Maduya, Carmona, before midnight Monday.

PO2 Pedro A Villamin Jr., case investigat­or, identified the victims as Romeo Cruz Perez, 42, a factory worker, Gina Emilo Perez, 42, and their children Gelo Luis, 11, Dennis, 9, and Romina, 5.

Laguna loss Meantime, rescuers also recovered yesterday the body of 3-year old Franzine Jhane Monge, 3, and a resident of Barangay Parian, Calamba City who was earlier reported missing.

Raging floodwater­s also swept away the residence of the casualty’s family early Tuesday.

The girl’s father positively identified the body of her daughter, whose body was retrieved at Laguna Lake near a resort in Barangay Palingon

Loose ground Villamin reported that the Perezes were sleeping inside their house when the landslide occurred at 11:30 p.m.

The police and rescue team members brought the victims to Pagamutan Bayan ng Carmona.

There were no casualties reported in the landslides in GMA and Silang.

COPS said that the rains spawned by ‘Maring’ since Monday nigh flooded low-lying roads in Noveleta, Kawit, Rosario, Silang and other municipali­ties and that evacuation­s were made.

Flash floods also destroyed a portion of Calubcob and Batas asphalted roads in Silang.

The evacuees have returned to their homes when the weather improved on Wednesday.

Missing Catanduane­s fishermen

Seach and rescue operations are is still ongoing for two fishermen from Viga, Catanduane­s, who were reported missing as “Maring” battered Luzon the other day, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO).

PDRRMO identified the missing fishermen as Eduardo Tating, 50, married, and Roy Sanchez, 48, both residents of Barangay Tinago, Viga.

Reports said the two set sail to fish in the immediate fishing ground of the same barangay Sunday morning but failed to return in the afternoon, which prompted their relatives to alert authoritie­s.

Quezon casualties

Over in Quezon province, 12-year old John Carlo Moena Valle of Tiaong town was electrocut­ed and died when he get in contact with a live wire while riding his bicycle in a flooded area.

A mudslide Lucena City meantime claimed the life of 2-month old boy. He was rescued from the mud but expired at a local hospital.

Eleven other individual­s were injured when a concrete wall collapsed.
