PICC, PNOC SIGN MOA FOR SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC FACILITY PROJECT
The Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last August 15, 2017 with the Philippine National Oil Company Renewables Corporation (PNOC RC) to construct a solar photovoltaic facility (PV) at the PICC.
The PICC has implemented various environmental programs through the years, including energy efficiency and conservation efforts. “Today’s memorandum of agreement signing is significant as it marks our first initiative towards the use of sustainable and renewable energy. This is the PICC’s way of supporting the government’s Renewable Energy Act, which promotes the development, utilization and commercialization of clean and green energy technology,” said Renato B. Padilla, General Manager of the PICC.
The project will utilize the zero-upfront scheme and will be implemented in three stages. Under the zero-upfront scheme, the PNOC will oversee procurement and installation of solar photovoltaic panels in the PICC complex at zero cost. In effect, the installation will provide cheaper and cleaner electricity to PICC and reduce carbon emissions. The first phase of installation comprises the rooftops of the Reception, Secretariat, and the Delegation buildings. The second and third phases of installation in other PICC buildings will be finished by 2018.
