National Day of Protest generally peaceful in Caraga

GENERAL LUNA, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte – The National Day of Protest on Thursday in the five provinces and six cities in Caraga region (northeaste­rn Mindanao) was generally peaceful and orderly.

“Everything was normal and no incident happened especially in Caraga region’s premier and capital city of Butuan,” declared Northeaste­rn Mindanao Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) Regional Director Chief Supt. Rolando B. Felix yesterday.

He said the Army’s Northeaste­rn and Northern Mindanao 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division was assisting in the security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful National Day of Protest.

More police personnel was deployed in the areas of public convergenc­e for routine law enforcemen­t functions to ensure the safety of the general public.

Chief Supt. Felix said the police force in the entire Caraga region was on full alert as lawless individual­s might take advantage of the occasion and pursue nefarious act.

Cops conducted 24-hour checkpoint­s, patrolling, and monitoring of the movements of militant and labor groups.

“PRO 13 has maximized its effort and resources in collaborat­ion with the other law enforcemen­t agencies to ensure peace and order in the region. We are grateful that everybody cooperated to make sure that no untoward incident happened,” Felix added.

He said that peacekeepi­ng forces are still in their respective areas of assignment.
