National Day of Protest generally peaceful in Caraga
GENERAL LUNA, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte – The National Day of Protest on Thursday in the five provinces and six cities in Caraga region (northeastern Mindanao) was generally peaceful and orderly.
“Everything was normal and no incident happened especially in Caraga region’s premier and capital city of Butuan,” declared Northeastern Mindanao Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) Regional Director Chief Supt. Rolando B. Felix yesterday.
He said the Army’s Northeastern and Northern Mindanao 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division was assisting in the security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful National Day of Protest.
More police personnel was deployed in the areas of public convergence for routine law enforcement functions to ensure the safety of the general public.
Chief Supt. Felix said the police force in the entire Caraga region was on full alert as lawless individuals might take advantage of the occasion and pursue nefarious act.
Cops conducted 24-hour checkpoints, patrolling, and monitoring of the movements of militant and labor groups.
“PRO 13 has maximized its effort and resources in collaboration with the other law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and order in the region. We are grateful that everybody cooperated to make sure that no untoward incident happened,” Felix added.
He said that peacekeeping forces are still in their respective areas of assignment.
